About / Our story
From a basement to a movement
One stubborn idea, a world splitting into smaller and smaller circles, and a crew that decided to do something about it. This is how Unifi became the community of communities
Chapter 01
The spark
Before Unifi, our founder Chucky was one of 105 teammates from every corner of the country and every background you can name. People who, anywhere else, would never have crossed paths.
Then they chased the same goal, every single day. Somewhere along the way the walls between them stopped mattering. Nobody gave a speech about unity. A shared love did the work.
He never forgot that feeling. And once he left that team, he noticed how rare it was everywhere else.
Chapter 02
The problem
The world was moving the other way. We have never been more connected and never been more alone. Roughly half of adults say they feel lonely, and in-person time with friends has fallen by about two thirds in twenty years.
Third places closed. Friend groups scattered. People stayed inside the same small circles, sorted by neighborhood, background and scene. One question would not let go: what if you could build that feeling on purpose, for anyone?
Chapter 03
The basement
No office. No playbook. Just a basement and two years of building the thing he wished existed: a place where people who would never normally meet end up in the same room, doing something they both love.
Think Tony Stark, minus the suit. More spreadsheets, fewer explosions.
Chapter 04
The first test
In February 2025 it went live as The Collective Unified. Run clubs, workouts, watch parties, fashion showcases, nerd nights. Run to Rave turned a run club into a Wrigleyville bar crawl. The nerd community launch party pulled about 200 people and went viral.
Strangers kept showing up for one thing and staying for each other. The idea worked.
Chapter 05
The setback
Every hero story has the part where the plan breaks. Ours was this: each community had one lead running it alone, and a community is only as strong as one person’s schedule. Communities leaned on one person, the brand drifted and promotion stayed siloed.
So we tore it down and rebuilt it.
Chapter 06
The rebuild
Now the whole team builds every community together. We plan together, host together and promote everything together, and you will see all of our faces at all of our events. No community belongs to one person. Every community belongs to all of us.
We sharpened the name too. Too many groups were called “the collective,” and ours took longer to say than a warm-up lap. So we kept the mission and became Unifi, from unify: bringing people together around one common goal, community. Each community got a short name ending in Co, short for community.
Our mission
Build communities that bring people of every background together through the things they love
Our vision
A world where people are connected by what they love, not divided by where they come from. Born in Chicago, built for everywhere
Chapter 07
The next chapter
Bigger rooms, including flagship nights at 2,000-capacity venues, and festivals after that. New communities. New cities, starting with Milwaukee, Austin and New York.
The mission has not changed since that first team: find the thing people love, put them in the same room and let the walls come down. Born in Chicago, here to change the world. And still here to play with you when you are bored.
The next chapter is not ours to write alone. Come be in it
